Sometimes I think the big budgets make people lose their minds trying to spend it and forget that it's the story that matters, and great things can come from solving problems on a small budget.Īt the first viewing, I thought the ending was a bit unnecessarily dark, yet on reflection I think that initial assessment was due to being distracted by the intellectual nature of the overall problem. I don't care about the production values: a good story - let alone a well-acted good story - always trumps production values by leaps and bounds. I will confess a bit of a weakness for films that trust their audiences but even so Coherence is an absolute must-watch.

I recall being really engaged in the dialog and group-interactions, as it felt real (as opposed to so damned many movies where it doesn't feel natural) - in doing some later research, I found out there was a fair bit of improv - and very surprised at restrained approach to several actual science-fiction level questions, letting you experience the intellectual and emotional issues in tandem. I had no idea what it was about other than vaguely sci-fi. Completely blown away by it - Primer levels of blown away.
